Gopimaya Limbh

Gopi, originally from Nepal, reflects on a life of transitions from her early life; she jokes how she  was a troublesome child.

She realised in early school how things were getting difficult in her country, so she decided in 2010 to come to the UK, to have a better life for her childrens future. She recounts how she supported her husband’s career when he went to the army in 1961, he did 9 years serving and after WWII a lot of the Gurkha army returned to the UK.

Though her voice is quiet, her story is one of enduring strength and flexibility. She values education, tradition, and humility, and draws on memories of early family responsibilities as a foundation for her life in the UK. Gopi’s life speaks to the strength of women whose labour and sacrifice often go unspoken.
