Nimesh Somaiya
Nimesh, born in Bournemouth, talks about growing up as part of one of the first Indian families in the area.
He and his sister faced racism at school, but his parents taught them to stay strong. Nimesh found it easy to get along with people and tried to integrate with his teenage friends, maintaining his cultural practices at home. His involvement in sports helped him gain respect and integrate into the wider community.
He is proud of his religious identity, which he initially felt was not "cool" but now embraces openly. Nimesh appreciates the UK for welcoming other cultures and is inspired by figures like Rishi Sunak and Sadiq Khan. He advises the next generation to maintain their culture and roots.
