Chandrakant A Joshi

Chandrakant's story begins in Uganda, where he lived a good life with his family until they were forced to leave with 90 days’ notice because of the ruling of Idi Amin Dada Oumee.

Arriving in England, in October 1972  he was placed in a camp in Yeovil, before moving to Scotland. He worked in a bakery for over 31 years and integrated well with the community. Chandrakant describes his experiences with adjusting to the culture and language, noting the differences between life in Uganda and the UK. He reflects on the racism he faced but chose to ignore it, finding happiness through his work and social connections.

He advises the younger generation to reduce their reliance on phones and engage more in face-to-face interactions. He is proud to be a British Asian and values the ease with which cultures can mix in Britain.
