Jasvir moved to the UK by plane as a young girl.

Though excited, she missed her Punjabi roots and struggled at first with English, learning it at school. Her mother resisted her going to school and wearing skirts, but her father insisted. She wore English clothes in public but had to change at home.

After initial difficulties, she made friends and adapted. Jasvir was engaged at 12.5 and married at 18, never speaking to her fiancé until marriage. Life improved after marriage; she balanced work and raising five children, with her husband supporting her career in a factory where she worked for 25 years. She became a mentor to others, taught women work skills, and built strong friendships.

Jasvir identifies as British Asian, values community ties, and embraces her multicultural family with one son married to an English woman and another to an Indian woman. Though she occasionally misses India, she feels rooted in the UK and wants her children to prioritise happiness, honesty, and strong relationships. Her advice to the younger generation is to be true to themselves while valuing both cultural heritage and integration.
