Julian Ahmed

Julian recounts growing up in Bournemouth as the son of immigrant parents, noting the unique experience of being raised in a family-run restaurant.

He enjoyed his schooling, making primarily English friends and experienced minimal racism. Julian describes his parents as stylish and individual and he took pride in their achievements and their significant role in the community.

The restaurant was a focal point of his childhood, filled with interesting people and experiences. He admires his parents for their vision and the successful life they built, despite the hardships they faced. Julian recognises his culturally split identity, comfortable in both English and Bangladeshi settings.

He values his ability to navigate different cultural spheres, a trait he hopes to pass on to his own children.
