Bhavna Somaiya

Bhavna recounts her life from Kenya to the UK in October 1983, arriving with her family and fiancé.

Coming from a religious background and deeply involved in community service “sewa”, she dreamed of being a car engineer. She faced some early challenges adapting to life in the UK, especially regarding cultural differences. She and her husband established hotels in Bournemouth, and she observed her children facing racism at school.

Bhavna found ways to bridge cultural gaps and offer support to those in need, particularly during the Covid pandemic. She values English values and expresses gratitude to the UK for the opportunities it provided. She remains proud of her Indian roots and wears a sari with pride, teaching her children about their culture while embracing British life.
