Mir Afzal

Mir Afzal came to the UK in 1962 at his father’s request, who had served in the British Indian Army.

Hoping for a better life for himself and future generations, he began working as a bus conductor and driver in Swindon, later spending a decade at a metal box company. He recalls the friendliness of local people and the ease of settling in.

Mir values both British and Pakistani cultures, enjoying fish and chips as much as chapatti, and is proud to hold dual nationality. Surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he feels fulfilled, content, and grateful for his life.
